A helpful little guide
Choose a file, compare, then download
Select an animated GIF, choose a color limit and optionally enter a target in KB. Generate a result and compare its actual bytes and animation with the original before downloading. 1 KB = 1,024 bytes; 1 MB = 1,024 KB.
Can I compress a GIF to 256KB or 1MB?
The target guides a search through lower color limits. It is an attempt, not a guaranteed size. Dimensions and frames stay unchanged. If the result is still above your target, try a smaller pixel size with Resize GIF. Color reduction can change gradients and fine details.
Why can the output be larger?
A new encoding may be less efficient than the original. The result always shows measured bytes, including increases. Keep your original if the new file is not useful.
